Fredrock grew from our shared interest in travel, hospitality, design, and creative projects, along with a strong connection to Fredericktown, Missouri. We created this private glamping campground just south of town on 33 acres along Twelve Mile Creek, where themed stays, outdoor recreation, and the natural setting come together in a way that reflects both of our backgrounds and the experiences that led us here.

          Where Our Story Begins

We are Misty Brown and Beverly Brown, a mother-daughter team with roots in Fredericktown and years of experience that shaped the way Fredrock came to life. Although we both spent much of our lives away from Missouri, Fredericktown remained an important part of our story. That connection helped guide the vision for the property and the kind of guest experience we wanted to create.

          Misty’s Return to Fredericktown

Misty is originally from Fredericktown, though she spent much of her early life in Texas after moving there with Beverly at a young age. Even while living away, she returned each summer to spend time with her grandparents in Fredericktown. Those visits shaped her connection to the area’s creeks, camping, fishing, open spaces, summer nights, and slower pace of life. After high school, she moved to southern California, where she worked in the restaurant industry, attended cosmetology school, and then spent 15 years as a hairstylist before returning to Missouri and later moving into real estate and short-term rental projects.

          Beverly’s Path to Fredrock

Beverly also grew up in Fredericktown before moving to Texas at a young age. Over time, she built Hired Hands Day Spa in Pearland, Texas, into a long-running business after starting with a one-person massage practice. Her years as an entrepreneur became an important foundation for Fredrock, both financially and operationally. Beverly also traveled extensively and documented those experiences through her YouTube channel, Becoming Bev. Her bucket list journeys included destinations and experiences around the world, and that spirit of exploration helped shape the creativity behind Fredrock.

          How the Property Took Shape

We purchased the Fredrock property in April 2020. At the time, it was an older campground with strong natural features and room to grow into something more distinct. During the first year, we cleared trails, cleaned up the grounds, revamped campsites, and began developing the unique rentals that would define the property. Our goal was not simply to reopen a campground, but to create a destination built around themed lodging, privacy, outdoor recreation, and a strong sense of place.

          What We Built at Fredrock

Fredrock is centered around crystal-clear Twelve Mile Creek, a spring-fed creek that runs year-round through the land. The property includes seven themed on-site rentals, five full hook-up RV sites, tent camping areas, and three nearby off-site rentals whose guests also have access to the campground grounds. Over time, we developed spaces that reflect our interest in memorable stays, including custom-styled campers, tipis, a restored 1967 Airstream, and a themed 1973 MCI Challenger bus. Across Fredrock and our nearby rentals, we now operate ten units in total.

          The Vision Behind the Experience

Fredrock reflects both of our lives in different ways. Misty’s connection to Fredericktown and her background in hospitality, design, and real estate helped shape the details of the guest experience. Beverly’s long experience as a business owner, along with her travels and broader creative perspective, helped shape the vision and growth of the property. Together, we built Fredrock as a place where people can stay close to nature while experiencing accommodations that carry our creative point of view and personal history.

          What Fredrock Means to Us

Fredrock is more than a campground to us. It is a personal project built from family ties, years of work, and a shared effort to create something distinctive in a place that has long mattered to us. From the creek and wooded trails to the themed stays we developed over time, Fredrock reflects where we come from and the kind of stay we wanted to create here.

One of the things we love most about Fredrock is that so much of the experience happens right here on the property. Our 33 acres along Twelve Mile Creek give you room to slow down, look around, and enjoy the natural setting in a way that feels easy and unforced. Some people come ready to spend their days exploring the grounds, while others simply want a quiet place to sit by the water and take in the scenery. Either way, there is plenty to do without ever leaving the property.

          Time Spent on the Trails

Our wooded trails are one of the best ways to get to know Fredrock. They lead beneath a tree canopy toward Twelve Mile Creek and give you a chance to experience the property at a slower pace. A walk here is not only about getting from one place to another. It is part of the stay itself. The trails open up views of the woods, the creek, and the changing character of the land, making even a short outing feel like time well spent. Bringing along a picnic is a simple way to turn a walk into part of the day, whether you stop near the water or settle into a quiet spot in the woods.

          Wildlife Along the Way

Exploring the trails also means paying attention to what lives here. Fredrock’s grounds create opportunities to spot deer, rabbits, turtles, frogs, birds, fish, crawdads, raccoons, armadillos, butterflies, and occasionally snakes. Watching the landscape closely is part of the fun, especially near the creek, where the clear water makes it easier to notice movement below the surface. It is the kind of setting that rewards slowing down. The wildlife is part of what gives the property its character and reminds us that this place is shaped first by the natural world around it.

A Seasonal Tradition on the Property

One of the more unexpected things to do here is pawpaw fruit picking. Before Fredrock, pawpaw fruit was not part of our everyday lives, but the property is home to pawpaw trees along the trails, and it has become one of the seasonal details that makes late summer especially memorable. Ripe fruit is typically available from mid-August through September. For many people, discovering something they have never tried before becomes part of what they remember most. It adds a different kind of experience to time on the property and gives the season its own rhythm.

          Games on the Hill

For something simple and relaxed, we also have horseshoe pits on the grounds. They offer an easy way to spend part of the afternoon and give the property another outdoor space to enjoy between time on the trails and time by the creek. Not every activity here needs to be an all-day outing. Sometimes a stay feels more complete because there are a few different ways to be outside, whether that means walking, swimming, or playing a casual game on the hill.

The Draw of Twelve Mile Creek

At the center of it all is Twelve Mile Creek, the spring-fed creek that runs year-round through Fredrock. It is the property’s main draw, and for good reason. Water depths range from about four inches to seven feet, creating areas suited for wading, swimming, and relaxing along the gravel creek bed and beach. The creek corridor also includes shut-ins, rock formations, and bluffs that give this stretch of water its distinct look. For us, this is one of the defining parts of Fredrock. It shapes the atmosphere of the property and gives people a place to return to again and again during their stay.

What we have always loved about Fredrock is that the property itself gives you so many ways to spend your time. You can walk the trails, watch for wildlife, enjoy seasonal pawpaw fruit picking, play horseshoes, or head straight for the creek and stay there for hours. It is a place where the scenery and the activities naturally go together, making it easy to build a stay around the outdoors and the setting that makes Fredrock what it is.

Fredericktown is a practical place to start a winery trip in southeast Missouri. The city is in Madison County, and its location puts us within reach of one winery tied directly to Fredericktown plus several winery destinations in nearby Marquand, Farmington, and Ste. Genevieve. That setup makes it easy to plan a shorter outing close to town or a longer day that covers a few different stops.

          Vance Vineyards & Winery

is the Fredericktown name on this list, so it carries the strongest local connection. Its tasting room is located at Beaver Valley Golf Course, and the winery’s official site currently notes that it is open for private parties only. That means this stop fits best for planned visits rather than a casual same-day tasting.

Even with limited public access, Vance still belongs in a guide to Fredericktown Missouri wineries because it gives the city a clear place in the local wine scene. A regional winery listing describes it as a family-owned operation with fourteen acres under cultivation, which adds some weight to its role as the hometown winery in this group.

is one of the easiest nearby options from Fredericktown. The winery is in Marquand at 4994 Highway A, and its official site describes a large barn-style facility in the rolling hills near Cherokee Pass. That setting gives the trip a stronger destination feel than a quick stop at a small tasting counter.

This winery also works well for travelers who want more than a tasting. The property includes a bistro, and state tourism listings show regular public hours from Thursday through Sunday. That combination makes Durso Hills a strong pick for a relaxed lunch or dinner outing from Fredericktown, especially when the goal is to spend a few hours in one place instead of moving quickly from stop to stop.

brings a broader food-and-drink experience into the mix. The winery is located at 16937 Boyd Road in western Ste. Genevieve County, and its official site says it has been crafting wine and beer there since June 2003. The property includes a tasting room and patio with views above the Saline Creek Valley, which helps it stand out as a longer-stay stop rather than a quick pour-and-go visit.

Charleville fits nicely into a Fredericktown winery guide because one property covers several kinds of outings. The site includes indoor and outdoor seating, a kitchen, an overnight log cabin, and an event venue, while current hours listed by the local tourism office run from Wednesday through Sunday. For anyone building a full-day trip toward Ste. Genevieve, Charleville gives us a winery stop that can also double as a meal stop or part of a weekend stay.

remains one of the more established winery outings within driving range of Fredericktown. The vineyard is located at 12323 Rottler Lane in Ste. Genevieve, and its official site lists public hours on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and the first Thursday of each month. The property also runs a kitchen, which adds another reason to spend more time there instead of treating it as a brief tasting stop.

From Fredericktown, Weingarten works best as part of a slower day in Ste. Genevieve. The schedule, food service, and winery setting all support a more settled visit, so it makes sense for afternoons when we want one of the winery stops to feel like the center of the day rather than a short stop between towns.

in Farmington adds another easy option from Fredericktown. Its official site describes a property built around handcrafted wines, small-batch craft beer, and a full bar, which gives the experience a wider social appeal than a traditional tasting room alone. The same site also notes that public hours are focused on Friday through Sunday.

Twin Oaks is a useful stop when the group wants a winery setting with more room for events and casual gatherings. Because the property is built as an event center as well as a winery and brewhouse, it suits birthdays, weekend meetups, and laid-back afternoons that call for a larger venue.

How to Plan a Winery Day from Fredericktown

The simplest way to plan a winery day from Fredericktown is to think in two directions. Vance Vineyards keeps us tied to Fredericktown when private arrangements are available, while Durso Hills gives us the closest straightforward public winery outing. A longer drive opens up Farmington and Ste. Genevieve, where Twin Oaks, Weingarten, and Charleville offer the strongest mix of current public access, food service, and time-on-site appeal.

Fredericktown works well in this role because it does not need to be a major wine destination on its own to be useful. It serves as a solid home base for exploring several southeast Missouri wineries without packing the day too tightly. With one winery tied directly to town and several established options nearby, Fredericktown gives us a clear starting point for a weekend built around tasting rooms, country drives, and a few well-chosen stops.

gives Patterson, Missouri, a setting that feels shaped by water, stone, and steep hills. The park sits in the Saint Francois Mountains, where Big Creek and the St. Francis River run through a rugged section of the Missouri Ozarks. That combination gives the area a look that is different from flatter state park landscapes, with old volcanic rock, narrow valleys, and clear moving water creating much of the park’s character.

          The Saint Francois Mountains

help explain why this park stands out. This range is among the oldest mountain regions in North America, and Mudlick Mountain is one of the major natural features inside the park. The terrain brings together forested slopes, exposed rock, and stream corridors that make the scenery feel close and textured rather than wide open. Sam A. Baker Park uses that landscape well, with roads, camp areas, and recreation spots placed around the river and creek instead of pulling people away from them.

The name of the park connects it to Missouri history. Governor Sam Aaron Baker encouraged the creation of the park in his birth county during his time in office in 1926, and Sam A. Baker State Park is now counted among Missouri’s oldest state parks. The park also carries visible reminders of its early development period, including stone and timber work from the 1930s that still adds a strong historic feel to the grounds. The historic district at the park was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 27, 1985.

If hiking is your thing, you'll find the Sam A. Baker State Park trail system is one of the biggest reasons to explore the area beyond the campground and river access points. The park includes routes for hiking, backpacking, bicycling, and horseback riding, and several of them move into wilder sections of the property with longer views and a quieter feel. That variety makes it possible to keep a visit short and easy or turn it into a full day on the trails.

          Mudlick Trail

is the signature route people often focus on first. The trail is divided into a hike-only section and an equestrian-hike section, which gives it a broader reach across the park than a single short loop. The hike-only portion reaches a three-way junction after the first 0.3 mile, and the equestrian-hike route forms a long loop that climbs around the foot of Mudlick Mountain and crosses the surrounding countryside. The larger Mudlick Mountain wild area covers 4,420 acres, so even a day hike can feel tied to a much bigger backcountry landscape.

The St. Francis River and Big Creek

both run through the park, and both are used for day recreation. Swimming, tubing, and wading are common in designated day-use areas, while floating on the St. Francis River remains one of the park’s best-known activities. Big Creek can also be floated when water levels are high enough, which adds another side of the park experience during the right conditions.

Big Creek and St. Francis River Fishing is another major draw. Multiple access points allow anglers to reach both waterways, and the primary fish commonly targeted in the park are bass, bluegill, sunfish, and catfish. The wider St. Francis River is also known for species such as smallmouth bass, walleye, and goggle eye in parts of the watershed, which helps explain why the river has a strong reputation with anglers in southeastern Missouri. Fishing here feels tied closely to the shape of the land, because access often comes with gravel bars, shallow runs, and rocky edges rather than broad lake shorelines.

Sam A. Baker Park continues to draw attention because it brings several experiences together in one place without losing its identity. We get mountain scenery, moving water, long trails, and a clear link to governor Sam Aaron Baker in a park that still feels grounded in the landscape around Patterson. Whether the focus is a quiet stretch of Big Creek, time on the St. Francis River, or a climb along Mudlick Trail, the park makes its strongest impression by keeping the outdoors close at every turn.
